It’s the one app we can’t live without, but could Instagram possibly be ruining our lives?
How often have you stopped a friend mid conversation because you’ve found the perfect selfie lighting, or have forced your significant other to wait 5 minutes while you snap their brunch? It’s obvious that we all love (or should we say couldn’t live without) Instagram; yet we have to admit it’s slowly taking over our existence. Here’s why Instagram is ruining our lives.
If you didn’t ‘gram it, did it really happen?
Did you just hike up a mountain? Or had an incredible coffee with your morning acai bowl? We’re all guilty of stopping whatever we’re doing to Instagram, however it’s important to put the phone down and live in the moment. Fair enough we all love to document the significant moments in our lives, but when you’re forcing your friends to pose with you for 10 solid minutes for the ‘gram, maybe you’re going a bit too far.
The love heart of doubt
The anxiety that comes from accidentally double tapping on a photo of the person your Insta stalking is unmatched. What’s worse is if the photo is from 72 weeks ago, and you double tap again because you’re so stressed about unlinking the image before the person is notified. (Can you tell this has happened to us a lot?!)
Not everyone eats that many salads
Instagram is the perfect place to gain incredible inspiration, and we love following clean eating Instagram’s for recipe ideas. But a salad for breakfast, lunch and tea? Pah-lease!
All white everything
Like the clean eating Instagram’s, the app is the perfect place to gain interior inspiration. But can we talk about the all white interior trend? How do you all keep everything so crisp and clean? Or more like how to you work up the courage to have white carpet? Please tell us your secrets.
The single digit likes phobia
We have to admit we’re cringing at ourselves as we type this. But everyone feels the phobia of not getting double digit likes on their Instagram (don’t pretend like you don’t). However, what’s worse is if under 6 people like your photo and your left with just their usernames under your image. You’re left contemplating if you should delete the picture? Or just rock your single digits with pride?
The followers game
We’ve once had a conversation with an acquaintance who said they love having lunch with their ‘Insta famous’ friends because they get heaps of followers, and that hitting 1.5 thousand followers was the happiest day of their life. We’ll give you a moment to let that sink in.
As we’ve covered, Instagram creates a lot of unnecessary anxiety. We’ve found that a lot of this stress comes from finding an Instagram theme that suits you. Whether that’s a cool chic aesthetic, a bright, vintage look or even the mosaic themes. Whatever happened to posting something just because you like it?
The green eyed monster (aka wishing our lives were just as exciting as the Kardashian-Jenner’s)
While it’s amazing to keep up to date with what everyone is getting up to on Instagram, it’s easy to feel a bit jealous when others are on an amazing yacht in the Caribbean while you’re at your desk. If you follow the Kardashian-Jenner’s you’ll especially feel this when you see the snaps of their amazing closets and cars.
