Tell us about the epiphany moment when you decided to follow your dream and pave your own journey?

For the past 4 and a half years I’ve been working my ** off to get into radio (Yes I was 13 when I started). I spent 3 years in community radio, then a year at a bigger station (still community) with my eyes fixed on a commercial station before I turned 18. When I was 17 and 3 months the Program director of NOVA 106.9 gave me a call and offered me a job. I couldn’t believe it happened. Then a few months later I find myself full time with Sea FM on the Sunny Coast as the afternoon announcer!

What are your tips to breaking into the market and getting noticed?

People always ask me for tips on getting into this industry. It’s not easy and it takes time. You gotta be persistent and never stop pushing for what you want. There will be times when you ask yourself “’am I wasting my time here?’” to which the answer is no! You’re never wasting time when chasing a dream.

How do you handle social media hate or negativity?

Like most jobs when you’re in the public eye more than most, you deal with haters/trolls. I haven’t had many, but a few on both social media and the gutless ones who call the studio phone on a private number. The best thing to do is just laugh and tell yourself there jealous! I never let it get to me. I think some people see me as an 18 year old who is loving every day at work and has so much drive for what I’m doing and they want to stop that happiness for whatever reason.

What advice would you give our readers who are wanting to step outside of the box?

If you want to “step outside the box” then do it! What’s stopping you? You only get one shot at life so make it what you want and don’t give a rats on what people think about you or what you’re doing!

What's next for you?

I’ve got no idea. I live life the best way, I just take it as it comes.
