Whatever you do, whether you go somewhere to wine and dine, have a moonlit picnic somewhere quiet, double date, or have candlelit dinner at home. There's normally going to be a little bit of music at some point to set the mood.
I know what you're thinking, "But Jesse, my iPod is full of Ke$ha, Nikki Minaj and Pitbull, and they don't set the mood at all". Don't fear, you've come to the right article to make your Valentine's Day evening one to sing about.
I've gone through my music library and compiled 10 songs to get you and that special someone in the mood of love this Valentine's Day. (These songs aren't in order of preference)
Put Your Head On My Shoulder - Michael Buble
Where would a romantic evening be without Buble? His smooth sensual voice is the perfect ingredient for a lovely candlelit dinner. This song in particular is for that slow dance part of the evening.
Honourable mention to Buble's rendition of Dream a Little Dream of Me, which would also nail that slow dance part of the evening.
Never Never Gonna Give Ya Up - Barry White
Then there's the obvious choice of Mr. White. I know it's a little cliche, but without the big fella in a romantic playlist you can probably kiss your date goodbye early.
So don't limit his involvement to this classic, but make sure you stick to his slow ones.
I'll Make Love to You - Boyz II Men
Boyz II Men are one of the greatest soul groups of all time, and have been on their game for over twenty years. In those twenty years they have helped move that special evening to the next level.
If you're looking for something to really set the mood (wink, wink, nudge, nudge), the chorus to this classic will definitely drop the hint.
If I Knew - Bruno Mars
Bruno Mars is such an amazing artist, and his new album, Unorthodox Jukebox, is full of incredible songs, including this one.
If I Knew, has a really old school sound and vibe to it, but it has a really sweet message. It's a really good song to play if your Valentine is someone who you've had a thing for, for a long time. But it never progressed because you didn't think the feeling was mutual.
Dive - Usher
Not only is this guy my idol, but he is one of the soul brothers of our generation. Usher has more than one track to add to this playlist, and you'll come across another one a little later. But this track in particular has a really sexy, sensual feel to it.
It is definitely one to play a little later in the evening.
Lovely - Deep Side
This isn't a very well known song, but it's a great tune to have playing in the background while having dinner or sipping a glass of wine on the couch.
It's got a really sweet story about appreciating your special someone.
Try a Little Tenderness - Otis Redding
It's time to take it back, and throw a little bit of old school soul into the mix. Otis is a soul icon, and has influenced so many great artists over the years.
Try a Little Tenderness, is a great sound to be in the background of dinner conversation.
Slow Jam - Usher feat. Monica
And we're back to the man himself, Usher. This cool cat really knows how to break it down, and has a song for almost every occasion. This slow jam (see what I did there?), is another great way to slow down the evening. By holding that special person close and sharing a nice slow dance.
All the Way - Harry Connick Jr
This is something you must have playing in the background over dinner. With it's swing and soul element to it, you can guarantee things will start to move forward.
Let's Get It On - Marvin Gaye
Who could forget this timeless classic? This song is very possibly the anthem to 'special cuddles', and one that will definitely set the greater mood.
With a title like that, it's hard to see anything else on each of your minds.
Keep it real this Valentine's Day guys, and really show that special someone you care.
Happy Valentine's Day, Jesse Aquiningo signing off.
