Whether it is the turquoise jewellery worn by the Navajo Indians or the opulence and grandeur of pieces made by master craftsman in Italy, each has very distinct stories to tell.
My handcrafted pieces are purposely designed with this in mind. I love a piece to look handmade, be unique, organic and not too measured or perfect. Whilst I design within a theme I look to lose myself in a moment of passion in my studios in Brisbane and Noosa where I can disappear for days. It is why I keep my studio and design separate from the Stone And Metal Gallery as they are two halves of a whole.
I opened up the gallery for these stories to come to life and named it Stone And Metal to highlight the rawness of the jewellery, the stone and the metal, bringing it back to the earth and reminding us of its beauty. There is so much talent in Australia that I wanted to have a place where real artists could shine alongside talented craftsman from around the globe and share their vision of adornment.
Every quarter we have a complete refresh of the gallery so Stone And Metal is always evolving to create a treasure trove of wonder for our customers to come and view incredible jewels. Even the gallery itself has been designed with this in mind. The slab of green onyx in the counter from Pakistan, the polished concrete floors and stainless steel fittings against the backdrop of the refined chandeliers – earthy and raw. I wanted our customers to feel the experience when they came inside, create a connection with their piece and weave that into their own story. As we always say, although our shelves are filled with precious pieces we are not a museum, we are a dress up shop. So come in and play and you might just unearth your treasure.
