Despite any formal training in styling or journalism, I've always had a keen eye for consistency. My attention to detail has served me well, spotting fluctuating trends straight from the front rows of international runway shows I attend to discovering local designers. Traversing my time writing in the style of the dying art form of long-form fashion articles, to commentating on Armani Privé's haute couture show at Paris Fashion Week on FashionTV, nothing invigorates me more than the collective movement of heads, watching fabric float and flounce down the runway.
To relish Iris van Herpen's intricate, wearable 3D sculptures, to the simplistic extravagance of Jean Paul Gaultier's garments, the movement in fashion in the future is the utter respect designers have for nature, sartorial history and the impact manufacturing has on the environment. To see fashion return to it's roots, with natural materials with minimal carbon footprint, or be inspired by flora and fauna, even returning to the cuts of yesteryear, as evidence in Raf Simons' first collection for Dior at Paris Fashion Week, 'respect' is the emerging universal trend I see and encounter.
Fashion, may not always be about glamour or celebrities, but it will always hold an exciting precipitation of evolution that tantilises the mind. How it is worn, not what, makes fashion incredibly stirring.
