Retro Revival

Influence is taken from Miami Heat style, laid-back Australian summers and days gone by.

Prada' Resort 2012 collection saw the return of the shift dress teamed with statement sunglasses and the classically silk retro head scarf. A modern twist is created with brightly coloured bowler bags and strappy metallic sandals.

Meanwhile, Miu Miu presented their own interpretation of the shift dresses teamed with polka dot bright pumps. The splash of vibrant statement colour in the Resort 2012 collection plays true to the retro influence while keeping the trend modern. Puff sleeves, bell skirts and polka dots are a nostalgic flash back to the days of the milk-bar, skates and juke boxes. Only Miu Miu swaps the skates for stilettoes. Finally, the collection's use of richly-coloured satin prom dresses teamed with silver jewels and an up-do plays tribute to the days of the 80's proms.

Men, don't think you're going to get out of digging to the depths of your wardrobes and re-living the retro trend. The humble boat shoe, in all its coloured leather glory is straight from the 70's. Just team with a pencil-thin tie and rolled-up chino's to take a trip down memory lane with Band of Outsider's new collection.

What better excuse to dig out those pieces lingering in the depths of the wardrobe, or, if the 70's wasn't quite your time, the classic op-shop is your new shopping destination. In the wise words of newly-emerged singer Macklemore, "I'ma take your grandpa's style, no for real , ask your grandpa, can I have his hand-me-downs?" Only it's suggested you choose wisely!
