MBFF Emerging Designer Group Show Impresses

MBFF Brisbane's Second Show Tuesday Night

Fresh faces and fresh talent is what the fashion industry is all about; and didn't Brisbane deliver! The 2013 Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival Emerging Designer Group Show was nothing short of impressive as eight up and coming labels put their best PeepToe –clad foot forward.

Long time fashion festival favourites, Molly and Polly Swimwear joined forces with Peony Swimwear and Playsuit to deliver a healthy installment of swimwear. Complete with cute props in the form of fishing rods, surfboards, snorkels and fluro floaties, the crowd was left dreaming of summer.

Erin Hassall Designs, A Jacksonian Era and Stokes Thompson Design provided a fresh and unique take on day wear combined with a touch of formality. Sinead James was all about power dressing with cheeky, modern and innovative basics.

Begitta returned to the stage following great success at the 2012 event with a slightly more sophisticated take on the iconic dream-like fairytale pieces. There's something to love about a floor length red number alongside the odd birdcage!

Also at the show were the best of Brisbane and Gold Coast student designers presenting their take on the relationship between fashion and media. Some were abstract and some were genius (QR code material included), but all were distinctive to say the least!

We're excited to see theses fresh faces making their mark on the industry in the near future! Stay tuned...

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane Wow's the Crowd

MBFF Brisbane's First Show on Tuesday Night

Words: Carly Flemming

What an amazing Bridal show it was at MBFF Brisbane. The event was held at City Hall on Tuesday night, with the venue already setting the tone for a romantic evening.

The designers wowed the crowd, and from the gowns, music, choreography and lighting there was a whimsical sensation, which sweeped the crowd away to a dreamy moment in time.

Designers included the likes of Wendy Sullivan, Regalia Bridal Designs, Bertossi Brides, Paul Hunt, Jack Sullivan, George Wu and Elizabeth de Varga.

Highlights included designs from Paul Hunt; his designs were timeless and stunning. Jack Sullivan also needs to be mentioned, his gowns were filled with an old romantic elegance but also had modern day flair. The stand out model goes to the gorgeous flower girl who walked for Elizabeth de Varga. Her innocence and beauty stole the smiles from the crowd as she graced down the runway nervously with a bouquet.

Tight waists, French lace and flowing skirts were a recurring trend. 1950's silhouettes were a stand out. Expectedly, 1920's Great Gatsby glamour was also popular and this was complimented by a strikingly similar sound track to the movie echoing around City Hall as the models graced the stage. The designers brilliantly interpreted these times with on-trend and modern gowns reminding us that we were at Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane 2013.

In fact, it is most definitely not, a concept discovered the hard way by the faces behind Italian fashion label D&G, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.

It’s my Décolleté

It’s my Décolleté

Mich4

Your décolleté, it sounds so beautiful, exotic, and a little erotic. Your décolleté is the bit between your collar bone and the start of your breast. Often forgotten by stylists, fashion bloggers and fashion journalists alike, the 'Décolleté' is one of those words you just want to say over and over, 'my décolleté'. It conjures up images of Keria Knightly in 'Anna Karenina', 'Pride and Prejudice' or 'The Duchess', that old world beauty almost defining what it is to be feminine and delicate.

Unfortunately the word 'décolleté' while derived from the sensual language of French, doesn't have anything to do with being beautiful, delicate or erotic. It means quite literally 'without collar'. How rude, just when I was starting to feel like such a lady!

Nevertheless your 'décolleté' is actually incredibly important when choosing the correct clothing styles to suit you.
