We've stumbled across a brilliant brand in Melbourne that is pushing boundaries in fashion and retail through design, construction and environment. Meet one of fashion's finest: the European influenced label tanner + teague.
Located in the heart of inner city Melbourne, this unique and immersive concept store houses their Australian made label for men, women and children. Originally launching in 2013 with a childrenswear range, they soon after noticed an increased demand for the exact aesthetic in mens and women's ready-to-wear. Little did they know, this evolution would be the first steps to becoming one of Melbourne's best kept secrets.
Husband and wife designer duo, Sam and Kyleigh have chalked their success up to focusing on creating wearable, high quality produced, modern classics. Together, they've cultivated a successful business model that is neutral in every essence. It's not about seasons, trends, age, or gender. Rather, it's the enduring quality in tanner + teague's designs that have made them desirable.
The power couple came from a background in avant-garde techniques. Head Designer, Sam developed his skillset working alongside Vivienne Westwood as Head Experimental Patternmaker for three years. During this time, he developed never-before-seen design processes that tanner + teague have now adopted which offers a more sustainable garment. How? They've subscribed to Vivienne's mantra, "buy less, choose well, make it last." Clearly, this explains why the sophisticated and edgy collections are designed for people who aren't afraid to get noticed on the street.
The name tanner + teague comes from their strong family connection. Proudly, the creative couple chose their mother's maiden names to front the label. This bond of family alongside their two loving children, Kitty and Otto, has been the very foundation for building what has now become a go-to cult brand.
Despite their rapid success, the label's production is still 100% made in Melbourne. Sam and Kyleigh have also added to their offering, including hard to find favourites such as fragrances by Helmut Lang, Mark Buxton and Diane Pernett, Homewares, shoes and international leather accessories.
When opening the tanner + teague Concept store Kyleigh and Sam partnered with friends and business partners Cameron and Sarah Muncey. Together the couples introduced an instore wine bar, and a VIP area for made-to-measure appointments! Oh, and the good news doesn't stop. On the third level, you will discover a 2 bedroom, self-contained boutique apartment that can be rented. Shop by day, stay by night? Sounds like the ultimate Melbourne shopping experience!
Neither exclusively for the young or mature, the label's wearable designs encapsulates both comfort and refinement. Meticulously constructed, these pieces slip into your wardrobe easily. The complex, innovative cuts with subtle colours offer a certain casualness that is clever and coveted. Featuring delicately draped jersey, asymmetrical cuts, and twisting silhouettes, it's the understated minimalism that proves tanner + teague's potential is endless.
