The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) has just announced that in celebration of the House of Dior's 70th anniversary, NGV International are presenting a major, never seen before exhibition, The House of Dior Seventy Years of Haute Couture.
Created in collaboration of NGV International and House of Dior, the exhibition will run from August 2017 and features over 140 Dior garments designed from 1947 to 2017.
Chief Executive of Christian Dior Couture, Sidney Toledano, stated that it’s an “honour” to showcase the exhibition in Melbourne during the House’s anniversary.
“It is a great pleasure and honour for the House of Dior to be celebrating its anniversary in 2017 in Melbourne. This exhibition will be the biggest Dior retrospective ever held in Australia,” said Toledano.
Expect to be in awe of the colourful and breathtaking history of one of the worlds most famed couture House. You’ll witness Christian Dior’s early influences, the house's design codes and the work of the Creative Directors who continued Dior’s legacy after his death in 1957.
“(The exhibition) will cover seventy years of creation, presenting the emblematic work of Christian Dior and his successors, including Maria Grazia Chiuri, who arrived last July and is the first woman at the head of the couture house,” said Toledano.
From Dior’s iconic ‘New Look’ Spring 1947 collection that transformed the worlds fashion game forever, to sketches, accessories, photographs, haute couture toiles, multimedia and archival material, this moving exhibition is sure to make you feel all kinds of emotions.
Plus, the exhibition will also feature the David Jones Spring 1948 fashion parade, where 50 of Dior’s original creations were seen down the runway. Director of NGV, Tony Ellwood, announced that Sydney’s David Jones are once again supporting the couture House by being the exhibitions Principal Partner.
“The exhibition will be a celebration of Dior’s most landmark moments and designs, including their iconic ‘New Look’ silhouette, which revolutionised women’s fashion in the 1950s, through to the present-day contemporary aesthetic. We are also delighted that 68 years after the historic Dior fashion parade at its Sydney store, David Jones is once again helping Australia celebrate the House of Dior, as the exhibition’s Principal Partner,” said Ellwood.
We are literally shaking in anticipation for this amazing exhibition. If you need us, we’ll be booking our flights to Melbourne.
The House of Dior: Seventy Years of Haute Couture will showcase at NGV International from August 27 to November 7, 2017. Be sure to book your tickets now.
