White in Brazil is known to be the colour to represent happiness. In her early 20’s not long after moving to France to study biology, Franco-Brazilian Anne Fontaine stumbled upon an old suitcase containing white shirts in her mother-in-law’s attic. Her now husband’s family business was a clothing manufacturer which made various white shirts for other companies over the years.
After finding the old shirts in the suitcase, Anne Fontaine had a vision: to recreate the simplicity and versatility of the classic white shirt while preserving the careers of the French artisan. In 1993, she produced her first collection in record speed and in 1994, only one year later - she opened her first store in Paris.
Fast forward twenty-three years and Anne Fontaine has over 85 stores worldwide, multiple awards, three children and forest foundations. Last month in April, I had the pleasure of viewing firsthand the launch of her latest SS17 Anne Fontaine collection to hit international stores. Most excitingly I met the charismatic, professional career woman in the flesh.
South Coast Plaza is home to one of the many Anne Fontaine stores in the US, the luxury shopping complex in California boasts the highest sales of any shopping district in the whole of America. The palatial complex hosted the private runway event with chilled champagne, private shopping experiences, gift bags and a chance to have a moment with the designer herself.
Below I've selected the top favourites for Spring Summer 2017.
The frills – who could go past feminine frills for the season! I loved the long skirts and dramatic frill tops.
The black embellishments and details on the collar brings even more interest to an otherwise standard white shirt. White shirts suit any figure and age, and are a must for all wardrobes.
From the belts, bags, and earrings to the shoes and necklaces - the accessories made the outfits. This brand is far more than just white shirts!
I also loved the splash of red and navy in the current SS17 collection – so divine.
What I love most is how Anne Fontaine not only manages to recreate style season after season, but she has such a devoted social conscious having built her own foundation to assist in saving the South American forests. She is also successful mum and wife and somehow manages her company with her husband as president and lives between Honfleur (France) and New York.
Bravo to another luxurious collection which will appeal to such a broad range of stylish women from around the globe.
