Hair Philip Barwick | Photography Milos Mylnarik | Makeup Regina Gao | Fashion Styling Angela Llang

Muse, by definition, is ‘an artistic force personified’ and that has been the mantra for creative hair artisans Roger Bowshall and Philip Barwick ever since they opened the doors to their first salon almost twenty years ago.

Muse has evolved from a modest hairdressing salon set up by two great friends, into a multi-award winning powerhouse salon business that’s regarded as one of Australia’s most creative and progressive hair institutions.

In 2008 Roger and Philip made the decision to move from their original Darlinghurst location into a larger Crown Street salon in the heart of bustling creative hub Surry Hills, bolstering their already impressive roster of professional hairdressers and evolving Muse into the hair brand it is today.

As well as his integral role as co-director of Muse, Philip is also a Redken Australia Artistic Director and International Educator, which takes him to many corners of the world. His talent also hasn’t gone unrewarded, being recipient of both Australian Hairdresser of the Year and New South Wales Hairdresser of the Year at the AHFA on two separate occasions, as well amassing a number of other accolades for the team.

What makes Muse the success it is? 10 key words says Roger; ‘education’, ‘indulgence’, ‘experience’, ‘humble’, ‘laughter’, ‘listen’, ‘share’, ‘reflect’, ‘evolve’ and ‘grow’.

Lazy girl's guide: Glam hair with Kardashian Beauty

The lazy girl's guide to attaining and maintaining a great blowout with the Kardashian Beauty Hair line.

The lazy girls guide to attaining and maintaining a great blowout with the Kardashian Beauty Hair line.

As much as I love beauty and I LOVE beauty products, I despise washing my hair. It’s thick, long and there is so much of it that it takes forever to wash, dry and style. Not to mention that I’ve recently discovered a new love for exercise and have become a gym-fiend, which means a blowout never looks great for long...

That was before I discovered these handy lazy girls tips, tricks and Kardashian Beauty products which makes maintaining a great blowout slightly easier than before.

1. It’s all about the base

As much as I complain about how long it takes, a sleek blowout really is the secret to maintaining chic hair throughout the week.

To esnure your blowout looks amazing, find a blow dry cream that helps smooth your hair. I love the Kardashian Beauty Smooth Styler Blow Dry Cream as it is lightweight but when used with a hair dryer and round brush really does eliminate frizz and leaves your locks silky smooth.

2. Dry shampoo is a girl’s best friend

Recently a friend told me she doesn’t use dry shampoo and I was genuinely shocked; it is the one hair product I CANNOT live without!

This miracle worker in a can absorbs any oily residue on your scalp while adding volume to your roots. The Kardashian Beauty Take 2 Dry Shampoo is perfect for brunettes as it doesn’t have that powdery, white residue of other brands.

To revive limp second or third day hair, simply spray the Take 2 Dry Shampoo at the roots of your hair and massage the product in with your fingers then brush out your hair for an instant refresh!

3. Focus on your ends

Don’t let dry or split ends ruin your look! Dry conditioner is not as popular as dry shampoo but it can make a big difference to your overall hairstyle by preventing dry texture on the ends of your hair.

The Kardashian Beauty Take 2 Dry Conditioner is a lightweight spray that revives dry ends by adding moisture and shine to your second or third day hairstyles. Brownie points for the revitalizing scent of the Take 2 Dry Conditioner which will leave your hair with a pleasant smell!

4. Braids become your best friend

Once you get to fourth day hair and no amount of dry shampoo is working to freshen up your look, it’s time to opt for a braid!

Use a light-hold styling cream such as the Kardashian Beauty Twirl Me Curl-Defining Cream-Gel for texture and hold. I love alternating between two French plaits or intricate braids on each side of my head finished with a bun.

The luxurious range of Kardashian Beauty hair products are infused with rejuvenating power of Black Seed Oil to target dry, dull and overworked hair and enhance your locks’ shine, lustre and body!

View the full Kardashian Beauty hair line and shop all the products in the range.

Stress is to blame for stubborn, hard to lose kilos

Fitness and diet programs don’t work if you’re stressed!

Fitness and diet programs don’t work if you’re stressed!

Have you ever wondered why it is so hard to lose those last 5 kilos after plateauing? Or why despite the right diet and gym routine every day you can’t lose weight? Blame your brain, it is actually stress that is making you overweight. According to the founder of Uppy, Laura Moore, a performance and health coach, the body doesn’t understand the difference between a real or perceived threat so although someone may only be stressed about the amount of emails in their inbox, the body goes into fight or flight mode. This sets off a chain reaction of biochemical events in the body that piles on the pounds.

Laura has listed the ways that stress sends the body into chaos and how to fix it.

Belly Fat

Public enemy number one. When an individual is stressed the adrenal glands in the body are activated which release adrenaline to increase the heartrate and blood flow, as well as cortisol to flood the body with glucose for immediate energy. Cortisol however also slows down the body’s metabolism to maintain the glucose supply, and when it isn’t used, it is stored as fat...on the stomach! These elevated glucose levels also suppress insulin levels which decreases energy in the cells. As a result the brain sends out hunger signals which causes over-eating.

Sleep

When we don’t get a good night’s sleep it disrupts the hormones ghrelin and leptin in our body. These hormones turn our appetite on and off and tell the brain what to do with the fat (use for energy or store it). Lack of sleep will confuse the process and you will experience unnecessary hunger, not know when you are full, and store fat when it should be burned. Furthermore our ability to perform at our best and make good decisions depends on the amount of sleep we have had, so on a day after little sleep you may choose to forgo exercise and choose poor meal options.

Digestion and calories

When the body is trying to fight a threat it shuts down anything not integral to survival at that moment, therefore when the body is stressed it normally shuts down the digestion system. Food is then not digested properly and a toxic build up ensues. These toxins retain fat and excess water resulting in you feeling puffy and sluggish. The calories we eat need sufficient nutrients in order to build tissue or burn fat. If our digestion is poor we don’t absorb the nutrients and the calories cause excess fat. The absence of the nutrients also triggers an urge to eat and leaves us feeling consistently hungry and in ‘fat storage mode’, making weight loss very difficult.

Exercise

Exercise can be stressful on the body but not necessarily a negative stress. If your body is in a constant heightened state of stress then it will already have excess hormones and doesn’t need any more. Exercise releases cortisol but if the levels are already too high in your body then it could contribute to weight gain. In this type of situation, re-evaluate the type of exercise and intensity and notch it down until the optimal state of the body is restored.

How do we fix it?

According to Laura the best way to overcome “stress induced fat” is to do the following:

  • Sleep 7-8 hours a night (it has been said time and time again but it is true).
  • Turn off technology 30-60 minutes before sleeping (the blue light it emits kills melatonin which is needed to sleep) and establish a relaxing sleep routine.
  • Eat simple meals with no more than 7 ingredients and make them whole, natural ingredients.
  • Practice yoga and meditation (even start with diaphragmatic breathing) – this helps increase awareness and is the best way to relax the sympathetic nervous system, giving you a sense of calm and clarity.
  • Know what your stress triggers are and devise to deal with them.
  • Get professional advice.
  • Do what makes you happy – schedule it in at least once a week and don’t let anything distract you from it.

Babs Bodycare Body Oil stars hemp and we're loving it

Cannabis Satvia - this is Babs Bodycare's secret ingredient...

Cannabis Satvia - this is Babs Bodycare's secret ingredient...

There is no question that a natural and organic approach makes all the sense in the world when it comes to what you eat... so what about what you put on your skin?

As the largest organ of your body, it not only absorbs nutrients but can also absorb nasty toxins – this is why it's important to be aware of what you use on your face and body every day! Babs Bodycare is a 100% natural, non-toxic and chemical free beauty brand that is all handmade in Melbourne, Australia. They are of course cruelty free too, for those who like to cleanse and moisturise with a conscience.

My sensitive skin is generally very dry so I love the rich, nourishing moisture that face oils deliver... but you'll be surprised to find that the Babs Bodycare Face Oil is also perfect for combination and oily skin types too. This is because problematic skin is generally dehydrated and stripped from over cleansing and exfoliating.

This is where Babs Bodycare Face Oil comes to your rescue (it may or may not be wearing a mini green cape in my imagination, delivering essential fatty acids that tell the sebaceous oil glands to “just relax”.

Can you believe that Cannabis Satvia is Babs Bodycare's secret ingredient!

This product is more chilled than most other oils because it actually includes Cannabis Satvia, or Hemp Seed Oil. Yep, you heard me, this oil is packed full of the incredible healing nutrients found in marijuana plants. It is in fact a powerful concoction of antioxidants and vitamins that penetrates the skin for a deep, nourishing and healing effect. After lathering it on before bed I can honestly say I woke up looking like I'd just added three Instagram filters to my face. The redness from my eczma had gone down, the darkness under my eyes had minimised and the pigmentation of my normally patchy face was evened out. My skin felt soft, supple and nourished.

I got into the habit years ago of applying coconut oil to my body right after a hot shower while my skin is still damp and boy can you tell the difference in comparison to conventional moisturisers. The Babs Bodycare Body Oil encompasses this same theory – it works best when applied to damp skin because when products are slightly dissolved and in contact with open pores they can penetrate the skin better. This body product is packed with not only coconut oil but a bunch of other helpful, hydrating plant oils that keep your skin smooth, healthy and glowing. So far I'm in love and would definitely recommend trying anything from the Babs Bodycare range, it's super affordable and leaves your skin feeling fabulous. I would give it 4.5 out of 5.

Say hello to the perfect smile with HiSmile

A product review of the HiSmile Teeth Whitening Kit and Coconut Whitening Mouth Wash.

A product review of the HiSmile Teeth Whitening Kit and HiSmile Coconut Whitening Mouth Wash.

Hands up if you’re coveting the perfect smile? Thanks to three of my teenage years spent wearing braces (I still cringe at the thought) I am quite happy with my smile, except for the fact that they aren’t pearly white (let’s blame it on the excessive wine coffee drinking).

Being a beauty fanatic I’ve attempted at home teeth whitening before, but always found the potent formulas were too strong for my sensitive teeth. Which is why I was really excited to try the HiSmile Teeth Whitening Kit and Coconut Whitening Mouth Wash; claiming to be ‘the safest and most advanced teeth whitening product on the market, causing no sensitivity or pain’.

How it works:

1. HiSmile Teeth Whitening Kit - Simply attach the mouth tray to the LED light, squeeze the recommended amount of gel from the syringe into the tray and place it in your mouth. The LED light has a 10 minute timer which will beep let you know when to remove the tray. Rinse your mouth and the tray and voila!

What’s included: LED Light, Mouth Tray, 3 Gels, Results Guide.

The kit provides around six to nine applications and it is recommended that you use the gel every day until you have achieved the results you want, then repeat the process on a monthly basis to maintain your results.

2. HiSmile Coconut Whitening Mouth Wash – This natural whitening mouthwash carries health benefits such as improving bad breath and boosting your immune system while encouraging healthy gums and strengthening mouth tissue. To use you simply squeeze a third of the tube into your mouth after brushing your teeth, swirl it around for two minutes then rinse your mouth with warm water.

Liked:

1. The HiSmile Teeth Whitening Kit is peroxide free and instead uses Sodium Bicarbonate to gently remove superficial stains from teeth. This means that it won’t damage or weaken the tooth enamel, making this product ideal for anyone like me who deals with sensitive teeth. I also love how convenient the kit is to use – the mouth guard is comfortable and mess-free plus the 10 minute process (indicated with a light timer) makes it super easy to fit the teeth whitening into your everyday routine. Lastly, I didn't experience any uncomfort or stinging on my gums as I have with other teeth whitening brands.

2. I was pleasantly surprised by HiSmile Coconut Whitening Mouth Wash. I’ve tried ‘oil pulling’ (with a different oil) before and was not a fan, however with the coconut oil there is no bad taste and I strangely love the feeling of swishing the oil through my teeth. I genuinely do feel like it leaves my teeth and gums feeling cleaner and refreshed. Once again the packaging makes the product easy to use.

Disliked:

1. As expected with a product that is not as potent as some other at home teeth whitening kits I did not see an instant vast difference. Therefore you might have to purchase refills and use the kit for two weeks before you see significant results.

2. None.

Visit hismileteeth.com to purchase your Teeth Whitening Kit and Coconut Whitening Mouthwash with free worldwide shipping.

Let's be honest, no one likes cellulite. It's pesky, persistent and pretty damn good at popping up in the worst possible places. Unless you've been blessed with supermodel-like genes, this is something every girl has (or will) face at some point in their life. We've decided to jump in head first and find out exactly what causes these unsightly issues, how best to combat them, and if all else fails, how to learn to love your cellulite.

What is it?

Impossible medical terms aside, cellulite is essentially the appearance of lumps on the skin, most commonly in the upper thigh region.

How is it caused?

There's a number of factors that can result in cellulite. These include...

Hormones

Those infuriating little imbalances that ruin everything from our moods to our skin, also tend to make an appearance in the form of cellulite.

Genes

Unfortunately, you really did 'get it from your mumma'. Certain, unavoidable, underlying factors such as race, gender and the speed of your metabolism can make you predisposed to the troublesome condition.

Diet

Those late night grilled cheeses? Well, they had to end up somewhere. The foods we eat can have a huge role in the development of cellulite. Excessive amounts of fats, carbs and salts are often to blame.

Clothes

Believe it or not, overly tight clothing can cause cellulite! Clothes that cut in and restrict blood flow can contribute to the formation of the lumps. Baggy clothes FTW!

Woman grabbing thigh

What can you do about it?

Unfortunately, as of yet, there is no sure-fire cure for cellulite. Don't fall victim to the endless stream of creams and therapies, they're not going to help. Instead, think about your lifestyle and decide what it is you need to change.

Eat healthy

Cut the fats and excessive carbs, and up the fibre, fruit and vege. It will do wonders.

Exercise

Hitting the gym, will of course, go along way in your battle. So, run girl, run!

Exfoliate

You read it right, just like how exfoliating creates soft skin, it can also reduce cellulite. Exfoliating, or dry brushing, increases circulation and blood flow to your problem area. Simply use a dry body brush prior to showering and viola!

Stress less

Keep those hormones in check and relax. It will translate from the mind to the skin.

Wear loose clothes

Ditch the skinny jeans and opt for a pair of gypsy pants and some boy leg undies – it will be well worth your worry.

In the mean time, stop stressing! You are your harshest critic. We guarantee that most people won't even notice the tiny little lumps, and besides, you are beautiful, bumps and all.

Hair hacks: 5 Ways to tame your mane post gym

The essential beauty tips and tricks for ensuring your hair looks great post-gym (no washing required)!

Celebrities looking great leaving the gym with these top hair refresh tips

If you frequent the gym you will be familiar with the constant battle between great-looking hair and a morning workout... Sometimes you might even wonder whether it's worth blowing out your hair as it will be limp and sweat soaked after your morning or lunch break workout, not to mention you might consider missing the gym to save your blowdry.

These tried-and-tested beauty hacks are sure to keep your hair looking and feeling fresh no matter how hard you hit the weights!

Dry Shampoo

The quickest way to refresh your hair: dry shampoo. Keep a can in your gym bag and spray it along your hairline then flip your hair over and go crazy with the spray for a quick refresh on the go. Don't forget to thoroughly blend the product into your hair to avoid any embarrassing white patches.

Our favourite: Kardashian Beauty Take 2 Dry Shampoo

Opt for braids

We've all seen how great the celebrities look with their on-trend braids but did you know this is actually a practical gym hair-do? Opt for one or two french-braids which will not only secure your hair during your sweat-session but once you take your hair out you will be left with effortless waves all day long.

Use an Invisibobble or fabric hair tie

If you do decide to throw your hair into a top knot or ponytail for the gym, opt for an Invisibobble or a fabric hair-tie which won't leave any kinks in your hair.

Give your roots a cold blast

If you're lucky enough to have a blow-dryer at the gym (or the office) set it to cold and blast your hair at the roots. This will dry up any moisture and inject some volume back into your locks.

Leave your locks smelling great

There's no way you would leave the gym without spraying your body with deodrant or perfume, right? So why shouldn't this be the same for your hair? Hair perfumes are not often talked about but are a real lifesaver to ensure you smell great!

YSL Beauty launches 1st Instagram mag

If social media has become your go-to source for new beauty inspiration, you're not alone. Now, YSL Beauty is taking our scrolling and double tapping obsession to the next level.

YSL Beauty launches first Instagram magazine and it's a total game changer.

They've embraced the platform as a new way for customers to buy their products, meaning they've actually beaten Instagram at it's own game.

The iconic company has introduced the first ever click-to-buy concept as a part of their new and innovative 'Instagram Magazine', called Dare & Stage, that was launched late last month.

Much a like a regular mag, it includes a cover, editor, short stories and contributions from everyone's favourite bloggers, photographers, writers and artists. The Instagram Magazine features two different types of posts: covetable shots of the latest YSL beauty products (le stock) alongside captivating beauty editorials (le flux).

Unlike traditional magazines, readers can instantly interact and respond to posts through hashtags and comments (standard) but can ALSO now instantly shop the featured products = mind blown.

We haven't even touched on the striking visuals yet... the still life imagery and incredible photography is enough of a reason to have us follow them immediately.

YSL Beauty Dare & Stage Instagram Magazine

YSL is once again leading the way and we're pretty sure many other brands in the near future won't be far behind jumping onboard with this game-changing concept.

But with anything that's a first, there's always a few flaws that will have to be smoothed out. Currently, the biggest downside is when you click on the link to go to the purchase page, each item for sale doesn’t open up in a new tab which is an annoying feature we hope they change to make it easier to navigate.

On the other hand, this issue doesn't bother us too much because here in Australia we are unable to shop from the YSL website directly, so hopefully soon it detects what country you're browsing from and reverts to a David Jones link instead, where we can actually purchase the products.

All that aside, this is a huge step forward for brands and the ways in which they use social media – the wide world web is looking like it's going to be harder to keep up with than we thought!

Bubble eyeliner trend will blow your mind

Great, just when we think we've nailed the whole liquid eyeliner thing...

The latest Bubble Eyeliner Trend will blow your mind by YouTuber Jenny Gonzalez.

Out with the plain old cat eye and in with the new bubble eyeliner trend! It's an interesting beauty hack taking the world by storm thanks to YouTuber Jenny Gonzalez.

Thankfully, there's no real need to worry about perfect lines and shaky hands with this new makeup look - phew!

The great part is, it in fact actually looks pretty easy to achieve. Jenny shows us how to create the look by placing the base of her eyeliner lid in a small swatch of liner, and then gently stamps it onto her lid along the lash line. She then fills in the tiny circles with her regular eyeliner brush to create the perfect bubble effect – see for yourself...

Sure, it seems a bit much for an everyday look but this could possibly be cool for festivals or special occasions. It would even be interesting to see other Instagramers and makeup artists show us their own spin by maybe using different colours?

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what's next in the world of bubble make up!

7 Tips to be the happiest & healthiest you

Take up these everyday tips to help you be the happiest and healthiest you!

Beyonce happy and healthy tips to living the best live possible!

Ladies, there is only so much fit-tea and hair supplements can do! There are plenty of fads and products out there that claim to make you look and feel better. But what's most important are the simple lifestyle choices we can make daily that can boost our energy and make a huge difference in our ultimate happiness and overall health.

1. Beauty sleep

There is no better feeling than coming home to your own little sanctuary of rest (a.k.a. your bedroom), filled with calming colours and crisp linen. Try to eliminate technology as much as possible in this space, and rather opt to watch Netflix out on the couch. Be sure to make your bed perfectly every morning to keep the room looking clean and inviting and be sure to allow in natural light, especially in the mornings – it will make waking up so much easier.

2. Rise and shine

Speaking of waking up, try to create a routine where you are going to bed and getting up at around the same time. If you struggle with the snooze button, rather than plugging in your phone behind your bedside table, place it across the room or as far away as possible. This means when that awful sound rings you have to actually get up out of bed and turn it off which will make you more awake naturally. Set aside an hour or two to get ready rather than 10 minutes, read some articles online and sip on your coffee instead of rushing and stressing. Improving the way you wake up can make a huge difference in your day.

3. Be active

Being healthy doesn't mean spending 3 hours per day at the gym like Khloe Kardashian... but rather making small changes to maintain an active lifestyle. Wake up a little earlier and go on a brisk morning stroll whilst listening your some energetic beats. During the day, why not walk up and down the stairs instead of taking the lift and try and move whenever you can. On weekends try to get involved in fun activities like mountain hikes and beach trips with friends - it won't even seem like exercise!

4. Be one with the glow

Skincare is the key to looking and feeling good. Sure, us girls have makeup and other products that can mask imperfections but having plump, supple and glowing skin can make the world of difference in your confidence and general appearance. Look after your skin with a simple morning and night routine that suits your needs. Splurge once every few months on a facial and be sure to apply sunscreen every morning before you apply your makeup to protect your skin from premature aging and sun damage.

5. Carry a water bottle

Move over coffee and wine, you know we love you, but there is an other beverage in our lives that is making us look and feel so much better! Wherever you go, take a bottle of water with you and try your very best to drink at least 2 litres per day. Constantly sipping water throughout the day, not only keeps your body hydrated, it helps to release toxins, clear blemishes and minimise overeating. Infuse your h20 with chlorophyll, lemon and apple cider vinegar for an extra healthy boost in the mornings.

6. Be organised

In order to achieve every goal you set yourself, it's important to make time for everything in-between form work, study, personal time and of course socialising. Make life easier for yourself by planning ahead and scheduling important dates to ensure it doesn't slip your mind. We get it, we're all busy people, but that is never an excuse – there are only as many hours in a day as you allow! Don’t forget to allocate time for getting your nails done, coffee dates with the girls or a session of retail therapy.

7. Keep it exciting!

Don't allow yourself to fall into the hamster wheel of habit. Maintain the excitement in your life by trying something new or stepping outside your comfort zone every once in a while. It's so easy to just simply 'exist' rather than living our lives in the best way possible. If you're feeling bored, why not be spontaneous and try skydiving or book a hot air balloon ride. If you find yourself struggling with confidence or inner strength, why not give a self defence class a go. If you need to escape all the hustle and bustle of your crazy life, try a relaxing weekend away or even an indulgent spa retreat.

If you make these small, simple changes to your lifestyle it will play a huge part in the quest of becoming the happiest, healthiest version of yourself!

A guide to sculpting, shaping & perfecting your brows

Are you coveting perfect eyebrows? This guide covers everything from finding the perfect shape to instructing how you should fill in and maintain your brows.

The secret to perfect eyebrows like Cara Delevigne

“I make brow contact before I make eye contact.” – Anonymous

The trend beauty fanatics across the globe just cannot get enough of; bold brows! Natural, big and bushy brows are everywhere right now and never before have perfect brows been this highly coveted.

We chatted with PONi COSMETICS founder, Evette Hess for her expert opinion on all things eyebrows and collated a guide which will help you finally achieve perfected brows.

Shaping your eyebrows

For the most flattering eyebrow shape, stick to what you were born with!

Too many women try and change their eyebrow shape rather than enhancing and perfecting the shape they already have. Hess says not to try and change your natural brow, “If you have straight eyebrows and try to wax an arch into it, you will lose quite a lot of the thickness of the hair”.

Growing out your eyebrows

If you are trying to grow out your eyebrows, it is best to leave the shaping to the professionals. These are Brisbane's best brow & lash specialists you have to try.

Hess recommends seeing an eyebrow sculptor who can teach you about your natural shape and advise you on how to best maintain your brows. Don’t tweeze stray hairs at all; embrace growing out random hair as these will help achieve a better shape.

TOP TIP: Apply the PONi COSMETICS Lash & Brow Growth Serum through your brows and desired areas of growth daily to assist in the process of growing out your eyebrows.

How to grow your eyebrows using PONi COSMETICS Lash & Brow Growth Serum

Waxing, tweezing or threading

There are a variety of hair removal methods suitable for sculpting your eyebrows - from waxing, to threading to tweezing – so which method is the best?

Hess agrees that finding the best hair removal method for you is all about personal preference but prefers hot wax as it is the most gentle on the skin and not painful.

Filling in your eyebrows

There are so many products on the market for filling in your brows that it can become overwhelming! According to Hess, it's important to have a selection of brow products within your beauty kit so you can create (without fail) a major brow moment every single time!

For a natural, everyday-wear brow, opt for a brow pencil or crayon that can be used quickly to shape and darken your eyebrows. The PONi COSMETICS Brow Magic has a 1.5mm tip so that you can create thin strokes which mimic your brow hairs.

If you have a meeting or an event and your makeup is more dramatic, then it's best to use a powder or a cream option for filling your eyebrows. Hess recommends using a firm angled brush so that you get a neat line with your powder or cream. For a bold and dramatic brow with sharp edges, line your eyebrows with the Brow Magic then just fill it in with powder.

PONi COSMETICS beauty products to use for filling in your eyebrows

TOP TIP: To achieve a bold yet natural looking brow and avoid that blocky-look at the front of your eyebrows, Hess suggests you start your application about a quarter of the way into your brows.

Once you get your powder on the brush, don't aim for the front of your eyebrow, the majority of your product should sit about half way through to the tail. Use the leftover product on the brush to fill the beginning of your brow.

If you feel like you have gone overboard with your product, use the spoolie end of your eyebrow brush and brush the hairs up and outwards. Tidy the look up with concealer around the brow to sharpen up the edges again.

The eyebrow shape of the season

So big brows are trending right? WRONG! After we spoke with PONi COSMETICS founder, Evette Hess we have uncovered that the demand for thicker brows is not a fad. Hess makes a point that society is simply now more educated in brows and has seen firsthand that over plucked eyebrows will turn into no brows as we age and the natural hair thinning process kicks in.

Ladies, finally the secret to perfect brows has been revealed, and according to PONi COSMETICS founder Evette Hess it is all about embracing and enhancing your natural features!

Booty contouring is the most ridiculous trend ever

Contouring, the biggest beauty innovation in as long as we can remember. It helps to highlight and define (and hopefully somehow transform us into a Kardashian - here's to dreaming!) What's not to love?

Booty contouring trend for 2016 | Women in black bikini at the beach with a perfect blue sky.

It started off on our cheek bones, and then slowly began taking over our entire faces before popping up almost everywhere from our cleavage, all the way to down to our abs. The newest development – butts.

Yes you heard us right, girls are now legitimately putting make-up on their booty, and we really don't know how to feel about this.

'Live Glam', an online make-up academy, shared a video on their Instagram demonstrating this new 'technique' and was immediately flooded with responses. Check it out below and let us know what you think.

If you ask us, this may be one of the most pointless trends to date. I mean, unless the make-up is waterproof (which we highly doubt), it will run the second it touches water (so there goes the option of showing it off on the beach), and the only other place you'd even see it (we hope), is the bedroom – and you definitely don't want to be leaving brown smudges between the sheets!

The Brisbane bride's complete beauty checklist

The quintessential checklist of all things bridal beauty and pamper leading up to your wedding day, so you have one less thing to worry about.

Bridal beauty treatments you need to look radiant and happy on your wedding day.

Planning a wedding can be an exercise in patience. From floral arrangements to seating charts, there are a million and one things occupying your mind. One of the most important things leading up to your wedding though is making time to pamper yourself. Which is why we have assembled a Brisbane bridal beauty checklist, ultimately ensuring you look and feel your best on your wedding day.

For glowing and radiant skin think Brisbane Skin

For the best results on your wedding day, ensure you book your personalised wedding consultation at least six to twelve months ahead of your wedding. The specialist team will look after your skin worries and keep you on track for all your treatments with regular reminders; so you have one less thing to think about!

For luscious lashes and on-point brows

If eyebrows shape your face, and your eyes are the windows to your soul, it is vital that your brows and lashes look their best on your big day!

To achieve your ideal eyebrow shape, grow out your brows months before your wedding and visit an eyebrow technician to help you find a shape to suit your features. Perfect eyebrows are created through regular eyebrow sculpting and tinting appointments.

Avoid fussing over fake lashes on your big day and instead opt for eyelash extensions; a semi-permanent solution which will open up your eyes and ensure your lashes look fab for flaunting. If you already have luscious lashes (lucky you!) a lash lift is ideal for a natural yet glamorous lift which will open up your eyes.

Skinstitut Ageless Peel treatment experience & review

An honest review on our experience of the Skinstitut Ageless Peel at Australian Skin Clinics.

Skinstitut Ageless Peel skin treatment review

Facial peels are undeniably becoming more popular. Until recently, the term made me think of that episode in Sex and the City where Samantha Jones has a facial peel which results in red and blistering skin.

I was recently invited to experience Skinstitut’s Ageless Peel from Australian Skin Clinics and I’m happy to report that a facial peel does not necessarily have to result in red skin, which is physically peeling.

The treatment

The Ageless Peel is a medical grade restructuring treatment, which works on the dermal level of the skin – deeper than the surface of your skin - and encourages normalised cell production. The treatment works on a range of skin concerns including signs of ageing, hyperpigmentation, dry skin conditions as well as acne related symptoms.

My skin

While I’m only in my early twenties and ageing is not a major skin concern, I do have sun pigmentation, fine lines and scarring that I would love to see reduced. Another skin concern for me is dull skin and dry patches.

The experience

My treatment was done by the Qld Business Development Manager of Skinstitut, Zoe Devine. The initial consultation was done a month before the peel and included Zoe assessing my skin and asking questions about my routine, diet and lifestyle. These questions would later help Zoe determine how the peel would best work for me.

For optimal results, I was instructed to use Skinstitut’s skincare range prior to- and post treatment, and I would personally recommend their active ingredient products.

My favourite products

Skinstitut Ageless Peel skin treatment and skincare products review

Skinstitut Multi-Active Mist: I will definetely be repurchasing this product! The mist hydrates and brightens the skin but it is the refreshing smell and how invigorated it makes your skin feel that I love the most.

Skinstitut Even Blend Serum: This serum clarifies pigmentation and uneven skin tones.

Skinstitut Enzymatic Micro Peel: An at-home soothing micro exfoliant which is suitable for sensitive skin. It works great to get rid of dead skin cells if you have dry and dehydrated skin.

Skinstitut L-Lactic Cleanser: This daily gel cleanser exfoliates and refines without dehydrating the skin; great for the Queensland heat and humidity.

The peel step-by-step

1. Firstly the skin is double cleansed to prepare it for the peel.

2. The Skinstitut Peel Accelerator is applied which renews, brightens and smooths the skin while providing antibacterial support and improving hydration.

3. Next the Ageless Peel is applied and massaged into the skin for up to 20 minutes. Due to the intensity of the active ingredients, your beautician will customise the time of the massage to your skin requirements.

Unlike peels that work on the surface on your skin, there is little downtime following the treatment. Right after my peel my skin looked oily and felt tight but it was not overly red and did not look raw at all. The following day however my skin was looking red, bumpy and felt irritated.

Light flaking that looks dusty on the skin is normal the week after the peel however I did not experience too much of this. Three weeks after the peel, the skin is meant to look radiant, glowing, even and clear.

In my personal experience, my skin has had more blemishes in the months following my peel than it did prior to the treatment. It is advised by Skinstitut that you have a minimum of three peels for best results.

The Skinstitut Ageless Peel retails for $150.00 per treatment and can be booked at Australian Skin Clinics.

Makeup artist Liz Kelsh talks Manicare collaboration

Celebrity makeup artist Liz Kelsh talks Manicare collaboration and what it takes to make it in the beauty industry.

Celebrity makeup artist Liz Kelsh on her collaboration with Manicare Next Generation brushes

With over 20 years in the industry, makeup artist Liz Kelsh has worked with a long list of celebrities and fashion elite, released her makeup guide and partnered with an array of beauty brands. The most recent collaboration has seen Kelsh work with Australian beauty care accessories brand Manicare.

Featuring improved bristles, light-weight handles and a new modernised design, the Next Generation brushes will be your secret weapons to create drop-dead gorgeous makeup looks.

We caught up with Kelsh to talk all things beauty and find out what the secret is to her success.

You’ve worked with many well-known fabulous women, what was the moment when you first realised that you’d made it as a celebrity makeup artist?

LK: Although I've never had an individual 'I've made it moment' having my first book published 'Makeup by Liz Kelsh' was a definite career highlight.

Have you ever experienced a ‘fan girl’ moment when meeting a celebrity?

LK: I've never had a [particular] 'fan girl' moment [but] I am definitely a fan of all my clients and consider myself very fortunate to work with such amazing talents.

You recently collaborated on a makeup brush range with Manicure. Tell us about your involvement and your favourite brush?

LK: I was very excited when asked by Manicare to consult with them on their Next Generation brushes. The high quality hair makes them a dream for blending and the crimped ferrules makes them long lasting. [These are] two of the most important things I look for in a brush.

I also helped curate the collection, taking the guess work out of brush purchasing for the consumer with tips on application on each brush. If I had to pick a favourite it would be the eye blending brush, a must for every makeup bag.

Can you share your most unconventional beauty tip that you swear by?

LK: Natural yogurt on sunburn, works every time!

What is one beauty look or blunder that makes you cringe?

LK: Over plucking your brows is never a good idea. Your eyebrows frame and give balance to your face and add polish to even the simplest of makeup [looks].

Is there a secret to your success?

LK: I think as with the secret to anything, hard work followed by more hard work. But I do love my job and I'm a believer that if you find a job that you love you'll never work a day in your life.

The Manicare x Liz Kelsh collaboration brush range features ten makeup brushes ranging from powder- to eyeshadow brushes and is available at www.manicare.com.au.

Loco for Coco: A product review of H2Coco Coconut oil

This season's beauty essential is coconut oil. Surprised? So were we! Read our coconut oil product review to see why we're loco for H2Coco Coconut Oil.

h2coco02

Move over argan oil, there is a new 'liquid gold' on the beauty scene!

Technically a 'superfood', coconut oil is all the rage right now thanks to its countless health and beauty benefits. Despite little scientific evidence, coconut oil's unique combination of fatty acids have been known to have profound effects on brain function, harmful micro-organisms, hair and skincare and even the rate off fat loss.

I decided to put all the hype to the test and review H2Coco's organic virgin coconut oil. Before this product review, I wasn’t sure how to use coconut oil so I did some research and tried everything from cooking to teeth whitening. After walking around all weekend smelling like a giant Bounty chocolate bar, I found there where a lot of hits as well as some misses. If you are looking for some coconut oil beauty tips , want to know how to use coconut oil or just an honest review of what works and what doesn't, then read on!

Coconut oil for... Cooking

The best thing about this product is that there is no end to its uses! Baked sweet potato chips are one of my favourite snacks and I have always used olive oil to make them. This time, I switched to coconut oil and I am so glad I did! I covered all of my sweet potato discs with the oil and baked them until they were crisped to perfection. My tip would be to serve them warm with a dash of salt ... delish! The coconut oil surprisingly adds a subtle flavour, there's an emphasis on the crunch and there isn't any oily residue left on your fingers as evidence from your cheeky snack!

Coconut oil as... Make up remover

I have always struggled to find a make up remover that works for me. Honestly, I had low expectations to use coconut oil as part of beauty routine. However, I was blown away! I used oil covered makeup pads and gently wiped my waterproof eye-liner and mascara covered eyes. Within two wipes of each I was totally bright eyed with not a trace of any dark make up. I did find, however, that my skin needed a good cleanse after removing the make up as it was left feeling clogged and extra oily.

Coconut oil as... Hair mask

Anyone with frizzy hair like mine knows how hard it is to find a product that tames the mane without breaking the bank. I have read many reviews about coconut oil as a hair treatment so I thought what the heck! I applied it quite liberally to the ends of my hair and attempted to brush it through as you would a normal hair mask. This was a struggle as it made my hair quite coarse. I slept with it in over night hoping it it would become softer. However, my hair was left feeling like straw. After washing the oil out and using a considerable amount of conditioner, I found the coconut oil made did make my hair extra shiny.

Coconut oil as... Body scrub

Soft, exfoliated skin, what more can I say... The sweet and tropical combination of coconut oil and sugar (you could also use salt) left my skin feeling bright and revitalised. This is my top coconut oil beauty tip as it just makes you feel so fresh and radiant- perfect for first date or job interview prep! The only cons about this method is that the shower needs a good wash after to get rid of the sugar residue.

Coconut oil as... Moisturiser

My favourite part of using coconut oil on my skin is how smooth and sexy it leaves me feeling. Before bed, I covered myself head to toe in coconut oil, making sure that I rubbed it in as best I could to save my sheets from oil stains. Whilst it did wonders for my body, I wouldn't suggest using it as a face moisturiser as it caused me to break out and made my make up appear oily after a while.

Overall, I loved trying all of the different uses for coconut oil and have made it a permanent part of my cooking and beauty routine. If you love the smell of coconut and are always looking for new beauty tips and tricks, I definitely recommend giving these a go and finding out what works for you.

Why Alicia Vikander should be your new beauty crush

Written by Jessica Lunan

Alicia Vikander smiling

Alicia Vikander rose to fame for her Academy Award winning appearance in The Danish Girl, and since then the Swedish beauty has set our hearts racing with her bronzed glow and natural allure. Here is why Alicia Vikander will be your new beauty crush.

The Glow

Alicia Vikander obtains an irresistible, healthy glow that has inspired us to drink 2 litters of water a day to (hopefully) recreate it. At least our girl crushes have health benefits.

Barely There

Vikander is all about bronzed skin and neutral makeup, which compared to the Kardashian contoured reign, is a breath of fresh air.

Up Do

She has the ability to rock the messy up-do like no other, and still looks put together.

Down Do

Yet she can flaunt her tousled, loose locks effortlessly.

Bold Lips

Vikander’s ability to pull off a bold lip gives us ultimate #beautygoals.

Cool Girl

Vikander is self-assured in herself and her style choices, which allows her to look effortlessly chic in everything. After all, confidence is the key to exuding natural beauty.

Skin rejuvenating treatments to fall for this autumn

Woman enjoying skin treatments from Australian Skin Clinics

If you’re starting to feel the effects of the change in season on your skin – you’re not alone! The on-set of autumn can make a significant difference to how skin looks and feels, with dull patches, scaly skin and breakouts.

Fashion Weekly chatted with Australian Skin Clinics National Training Manager, Darlene O’Gara, to discover the best skin treatments for autumn.

Warning: The amazing results may cause you to fall for more than one treatment!

9-Step Microdermabrasion

Does it feel like no matter how many products you use, they are never quite as effective as they should be? This can be a combination of dry skin and blocked pores which prevent absorption of the vitamins, minerals and moisture – a common result of slathering on sunscreen throughout the warmer summer months.

It is important to eliminate any build up of dry, dead skin cells from your face, as they will soak up any moisturiser applied. Australian Skin Clinics’ 9-Step Microdermabrasion is a fantastic solution that can make a significant difference to your autumn skin. It will also improve circulation and stimulate collagen for a renewed, revitalized and clear complexion – win, win!

Skinstitut Enzymatic Micro Peel

A must for the cooler months, the Enzymatic Micro Peel is the perfect home skincare product to help maximise the benefits of your 9-Step Microdermabrasion.

Not only can the Enzymatic Micro Peel be used for all skin types, it is especially effective for dry, dehydrated skin which is usually the uninvited guest of cooler autumn weather.

Ageless Peel

If you’re beginning to notice pigmentation and uneven skin tone from too much time in the sun this summer, then autumn is the perfect time to consider an Ageless Peel.

Your skin will thank you for the revitalising treatment which features cosmedical grade Vitamin A, amino acids and marine collagen. The strength of your Ageless Peel is customised to fit the unique needs of your skin to ensure your skin is strengthened, restructured and receives maximum hydration. Kiss those dull patches and scaly skin goodbye.

Fractional RF

Fractional RF is the queen of expert multi-tasking - treating multiple skin concerns such as open pores, fine lines, wrinkles, general redness, loose skin, stretch marks, acne and poor skin tone.

The treatment utilises fractional radio frequency and dermal stamping to direct micro channels of energy into the layers of your skin. This direct energy is in a controlled setting in order to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. In turn, your skin becomes healthier, firmer and more refined. Your skin texture and tone becomes more even with a visible reduction of scars and stretch marks.

As Fractional RF requires avoiding excessive sun exposure and tanning solariums 48 hours post treatment, it’s the perfect treatment to try this autumn.

Tantouring: The art of makeup to get a Kardashian body

Kardashian sisters on boat body contoured with tan

This just in: the latest Kardashian beauty secret has been revealed!

Joyce Bonelli, make-up artist to the sisters and close friend of the family, has finally invited us in to see first-hand how those contoured collar bones and toned tummies we all crave, are carefully crafted.

'Tantouring', or body contouring, is basically the process of applying self-tanner to parts of the face and body to create highlight and definition. This new craze is popular with countless celebs (including the ever stunning Kardashian sisters).

Read on to find out how to achieve this show stopping look from the comfort of your very own bathroom.

Khloe Kardashian body contoured with tan

Step 1: Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate!

Ensure you scrub your body so it's smooth, clean of any residue and prepared for the tan.

We suggest: Payot, Gommage Mineral Brown Sugar Body Scrub $78.00

Step 2: Bronze your body.

Before we get to the contouring, start off by tanning your entire body with your favourite self-tanning mousse to get that beautiful, sun-kissed shade.

We recommend: St Tropez, Self Tan Bronzing Mousse $39.95

Step 3: Darken and define.

Next, take a second shade of tan (one that is considerably darker than the one you used for the previous step) and use a foundation brush to outline and accentuate sections of your face and body that you want to stand out.

Focus on your cheekbones, collar bones, decolletage, the bridge of your nose, top of your forehead and shoulders and down either side of your arms and legs - and if you're planning on showing some skin, your abs (or faux abs) too!

We use: St Tropez, Self Tan Dark Mousse $59.95

Step 4: Get that glow.

Finally, use a highlighter to illuminate the cheeks, brows and cleavage and get that gorgeous glow.

We love: Napoleon Perdis, Reflective Refiner Bright Light Highlight Powder $50.00

So there you have it! Use this sexy new trend to slim your silhouette, contour critical parts of your face and we can promise that we will have you feeling camera ready in seconds.

Lanolips creator Kirsten Carriol talks global launch

Lanolips creator Kirsten Carriol

Iconic beauty brand Lanolips has launched onto online shopping mecca Net-A-Porter; finally you can add a multi-purpose balm into your shopping basket alongside your Mui Mui and Lanvin!

To celebrate this news, we chatted with creator Kirsten Carriol to find out how she took Lanolips from a capsule collection to an internationally renowned beauty brand.

What inspired you to begin this journey and start your own lip-care line?

KC: I spent a lot of time on my grandparents' sheep farm as a child, so I always knew lanolin was the best moisturiser. I was fighting chapped lips on an international flight when I remembered the feel of lanolin, and the idea for Lanolips was born.

What do you love most about having your own Award Winning line that is highly coveted by International celebrities?

KC: I won’t lie, it is a massive thrill to know something I created is in the handbag of Drew Barrymore, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Sienna Miller!

But I take after my mother, and have a deep desire just to be ‘useful’, and to make something that is useful to others - including celebrities - is really the most satisfying.

Being a consumer come creator, what is it like to be able to devise a product that meets the needs that previously, the market hasn't?

KC: It's magic; I feel so lucky that people have embraced the brand! The path was clear after my lightbulb moment ... the week before Lanolips first launched I decided if it failed I would be ‘okay’ with that, as I produced exactly what I set out to create. And I also love that I gave my grandparents something to boast about with their friends.

What sets Lanolips apart?

KC: Our high concentration of lanolin [combined with] incredibly high quality natural formulas [sets Lanolips apart]. Along with our honesty and transparency.

Lanolips 101 Ointment new packaging

Lanolips has recently launched an iconic new look! Where did you get the inspiration for your new packaging?

KC: I wanted it to look like it has been around forever without looking old fashioned; [therefore] iconic.

The colours [are] appealing but natural and non-clinical, like they had been sitting in the sun all day and had faded right out. Our new blue is inspired by hard working faded blue denim jeans, like farmers may wear.

What is your top beauty tip?

KC: Use lip balm and smile.

What is your favourite use for the Lanolips 101 Ointment Multipurpose Superbalm?

KC: My 3 steps before bed every night; [apply] lots on the lips, little on the cuticles, then dab the rest around the eyes.

What is your ultimate beauty essential that you carry in your handbag at all times?

KC: Lanolips 101 Ointment and a nail file.

What can we look forward to from Lanolips?

KC: More multitasking lanolin skincare, there is a full top to toe offering to come!
