Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane was a stellar week of local designer collections from established and emerging creatives. I was honoured to be a guest at at all the shows including a fabulous high tea.
That week, I was a little run down and unwell and had been facing a few health issues that I had been ignoring because of work demands. Terrible excuse, but I was guilty of putting my body's needs on the back burner.
Anyway, I was looking forward to a fabulous week of fashion but by Wednesday, I was utterly exhausted.
I had an appointment booked in with owner and senior stylist, Brodie-Lee Stubbins from Rokstar. I've worked with her in the past and we've spoken via email and Instagram but I've never had the privilege of her styling my hair.
I walked into the modern and minimalistic salon and was greeted with a warm welcome from the leading lady. Trendy specs framed her face against disheveled, sexy, lush hair, and a gleaming smile. After a hug, (we'd been talking so long online, it was wonderful to finally meet her in the flesh) she walked me to my chair, offered me a beverage from her menu, which included champagne but being fashion week, I opted for a ginger and lemon tea.
We then sat down and had a chat. I shared with her that I'd been on some medication that had left me with a dry, flaky and itchy scalp. This problem was starting to bother me because I'd been using different products to clear it up but still hadn't found a solution.
Brodie also spent the time assessing my hair and educated me about the current state of my locks. She suggested ideas on how I could improve the shape, colour and overall management of my frizzy curls but it was handled in the most professional, non-judgmental and friendly way. She made me feel so comfortable and gave me fresh inspiration for my next appointment.
Because I had only booked in for a wash and blow dry, Brodie had to work her magic on my 6 week old, coppery, faded colour and dry strands. She kindly put a toner through my hair to refresh my look, gave me the best head massage of my life and styled my hair to perfection.
When she asked me about how I wanted my hair, I told her that I love those big sexy curls but struggle to achieve them. Mainly because my hair has a mind of its own and in the past, when I do get a blow out, I've walked away looking like a stepford house wife, rather than a Victoria's secret model. Thankfully, Brodie knew how to control and manage what my mama gave me. No wonder why she owns an award winning salon!
She turned my poof into perfect! Once she had performed her trickery, I had sexy, disheveled locks to work front row at fashion week.
I walked into the salon feeling dreary but left feeling confident and sexy.
Brodie made me feel beautiful from the inside out. She's incredible. As a highly respected hair stylist, she listens to her 'guests', treats them like the ultimate VIP and best of all, transforms them so they can face life with head-turning locks.
