The countdown is on for ADEVEE Fashion Festival this October. Taking place in Melbourne, the fashion filled event will bridge the gap between stylish clothes and size. It doesn't end there, as ADEVEE Fashion's eBoutique is home to an array of designers who make clothes for curve and inbetweenie men and women. So, shopping can now be a breeze no matter where you are in Australia and beyond.
To celebrate, we spoke with Makeup Artist Peta-Gai McLaughlin from Iridis Cosmetics who will be creating the gorgeous hair and makeup looks at this show-stopping affair. Have you grabbed your tickets yet?

Peta-Gai McLaughlin from Iridis Cosmetics
Congratulations on being the exclusive makeup partner of Adevee Fashion Festival! How did this opportunity occur?
PGM: Karina, the founder of Adevee, has known me for years, in both the makeup world and the curve fashion world (she was walking in a show I did the hair and makeup on in 2014 and we just didn’t stop talking - I had to redo her lips three times!). We realised we had so much in common, became friends and I was her first choice to design the look and feel of the hair and makeup for her fashion event.
How would you best describe Iridis Cosmetics in 3 words?
PGM: Makeup Made Simple.
We spend our days teaching women how to apply their own makeup with our products, to suit their own gorgeousness, and to remind them they’re beautiful. It’s both an honour and a joy.
Can you reveal what makeup looks can we expect to see down the runway?
PGM: Ooooh, that is top secret! But what I can say is that I’ve had a few requests for the classic bronze smoky eye – that is always a great fashion staple. A tradition grey and black smoky eye always looks amazing on the runway and we are mixing up the hair looks – sleek ponies will never go out of style, and neither will the sexy voluminous waves.
What's the inspiration behind these looks?
PGM: Inspiration can be found everywhere – I love that about makeup – the spark of a makeup design can come from a blast of colour, the cut of a pair of pants, the swish of a skirt and the structure of a design that flatters the curve a waist and a hip. I’ve been really inspired by the designs I’ve seen from the designers – I often just have a “feel” for the hair and makeup based on the designs and colours. It’s often a very intuitive process, taking into account trends and what will work on the models’ faces.
What will be the hottest 'it' colour of the season?
PGM: I am loving the watermelons, corals, pinks and greens that we are seeing everywhere. It’s very much a ‘spring garden’ feel!
Can you give us the exclusive insight on whether the focus will be on eyes or lips at Adevee Fashion Festival?
PGM: As a Makeup Artist, I’m known for my eye work, so if I was a betting girl, I’d be putting money on eyes!
Karina Bruce and the team from Adevee Fashion are amazing to work with. How has the experience been thus far?
PGM: Oh, it’s been amazing! I’ve got to play with exceptional designs, apply makeup to the beautiful Bella Management models (their faces are such a delight to work on!), and swan around like a fashion maven – I’m having the time of my life!
The hype is starting to build around Adevee Fashion Festival as ticket purchases are getting snapped up quickly. In your own words, why should our Fashion Weekly readers buy tickets to this event?
PGM: This festival is something special – a fashion space where diversity is celebrated and fashion is designed for a body with curves and bumps. It’s also a space for women to see gorgeous models walking the runway with bodies that look more like their own – and that is extraordinary. I feel like the Adevee Fashion Festival is going to be a shot of self-esteem that we’ve all been needing!
What do you think will be the highlight of Adevee Fashion Festival?
PGM: I think the highlight will be the amazing feminine energy that will be brought together in the room to create this extraordinary event. All the women involved in Adevee have shown their strength, tenacity, talent and true desire to bring out the best in their clients. I am always inspired by spending time with other women in business and seeing what they can achieve. I just love being around that fantastic energy – it’s contagious!
What's next for Iridis Cosmetics?
PGM: Iridis has just opened its own Makeup Workshop, Studio, Retail and Warehouse space in Yarraville, and so clearly world domination can’t be too far behind! We are looking forward to a glamorous Spring Racing Carnival season, offering a premium Hair, Makeup & Champagne package at Iridis HQ (so close to Flemington!) for all the race days. We will continue to also teach our gorgeous clients how to apply their makeup at our famous “Glamtorials” (Group Makeup Lessons in your home), and keep sharing our passion for makeup, as one of the very few truly independent Australian makeup brands in the market. Our core purpose and mission will always be to remind women they’re beautiful. Then, world domination, one lipstick at a time.
