Beauty sleep does wonders for the skin, but until now you probably hadn't even considered the overnight magic it can also offer our best commodity - our hair. Before bed, we slather our faces in rich overnight creams, facial oils and dab on eye cream - so why shouldn't we take similar measures for our hair?
With the five easy tricks we've gathered here, you can score some lazy-girl multitasking points and wake up with princess-worthy locks all while you catch your zzzs. How's that for beauty sleep?
Pimp your pillowcase
Honestly, the first thing you need to do to get perfect hair in your sleep is to switch your cotton pillowcase for a silk one instead. Cotton pillowcases draw moisture out from your hair, and the friction from rolling around in your sleep pulls on your hair, causing breakage. As well as being beautiful and soft, silk pillowcases keep your hair hydrated - which is step number one for perfect hair.
Switch up your towel
Just like your pillowcase, your towel is probably doing your hair more harm than good. Most towels are also made of cotton, so switch to microfiber hair towels instead - they are exponentially better at absorbing moisture and are much more kinder on your hair cuticle. As for drying your hair with a t-shirt? Consider this hair hack a myth busted - most shirts are made from cotton so it'll just have the same effect as drying your hair with a cotton towel or sleeping on a cotton pillowcase.
Repair while you rest
In a perfect world, we wouldn't cause any stress or damage to our hair, but a perfect world this isn't! I've got super fine hair and the split ends caused from constantly straightening my hair are a lot more obvious than I'd like them to be. Heat and hair dye are really damaging to your hair. But if you want to restore health to it without getting a haircut, an overnight treatment is just the medicine the hair doctor ordered. Apply the hair treatment to your ends (or all the way up to the scalp if needed) then wrap your hair up in a silk scarf to keep the oil off your sheets and let it work its magic.
Oil it up
Moroccan Oil is the original magic hair oil. Everyone swears by it for a reason - whether you've got curly, straight, thick or fine hair, this oil does not discriminate.
It's infused with argan oil so it will detangle and strengthen your hair while you sleep. Don't overload your hair with it - just a small dollop will have you waking up like a princess. It contains antioxidants that control frizz and strengthen your hair while you sleep. It's the best hair oil for shiny, healthy hair I've ever used (plus it smells amazing!).
Always dry your hair
Damps okay but don't even think about going to bed with a dripping wet pony. Wet hair is way more fragile than dry hair and sleeping on your freshly shampooed strands can cause them to tangle, rub and break while you're catching Z's.
Emma is just your average book loving, tea drinking, story writing, narcissistic millennial on an eternal quest for the perfect t-shirt. Ever since she picked up her first copy of Dolly when she was twelve, she always knew she wanted to work in magazines. She would describe herself as a bit of a hopeless romantic with an obsession for true crime and horror and a love for red wine, whiskey or a stiff gin and tonic. When she's not binge watching Netflix or buying things she can't afford online, she spends her weekends trawling through bookstores and eating her way through Brisbane.
