Barre Body founder, Emma Seibold shares her wisdom on loving your body.
Your body truly is a temple, in more ways than one. It is the beautiful vehicle you have been given to travel and enjoy life in, so it’s only natural that you should nurture, love and worship it.
After my second baby was born I was left with abdominal separation, a saggy tummy, two hernias and very painful knees. Having had such a healthy and active lifestyle throughout both my pregnancies and in between with Barre Body, it was a real shock to not feel strong or fit.
I understand how hard we can be on ourselves (us women especially), and it’s time to shift this thinking and begin embracing ourselves and our bodies. Here are my 7 tips to loving your body.
1. Move your body.
First and most importantly, move your body every single day. Even if it is just for 10 or 20 minutes, move your lovely body. Once you get started, you’ll want to keep going for longer and you’ll find you enjoy yourself (trust me, it’s true). Exercise releases feel good endorphins, so you’ll get an extra mood boost too.
2. Find a regular form of exercise you love.
It’s so much easier to have motivation when you find a style of exercise or a workout studio that you love. Of course I recommend you try Barre Body. It’s a body-loving, self-kindness environment that will support you to really enjoy working out. However, you need to find a different exercise that you truly love so I recommend you have a go at different routines until you find something that fits.
3. Eat it all with love.
My manifesto when it comes to eating (such an integral part of body love and acceptance) comes from my favourite nutrition book, Food Rules by Michael Pollan. A quote that’s stuck with me is, “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.”
Meaning, you should eat whole foods rather than processed foods, you should eat moderate portions and eat mindfully, and you should eat a primarily plant-based diet. I just love this. It’s so simple and so true. I also believe that you should eat with love – eat pizza or chocolate (not too much) and make it a self-loving experience without any guilt.

4. Be grateful.
Be grateful for this magical, beautiful, healthy body you have been given. Even on the days when my knees were at their worst, I was grateful that I could get out of bed and still move around. What a gift our precious body and state of health is. Try to shift your focus from what you don’t like into what you do. We spend so much time and negative energy on hating certain things about ourselves, but by becoming aware of this self-talk we can consciously stop it.
5. Let go of wanting to lose weight.
Just let go. The very energy of letting go is much more conducive to losing weight than a tightly held belief like “I have to lose weight.” We all know what we need to do to be healthy, but instead, we seem to become obsessed with counting calories. This is certainly not going to support your journey to wellness and loving your body. So let go of these beliefs and work on what makes you feel heathy.
6. Throw out any clothes that don't fit or flatter you.
It’s simple, buy new clothes that fit your body now, not the body you think you want or used to have.
7. Buy yourself a super cute workout outfit.
Because you deserve it, and it will give you the motivation to workout and show off your new active wear wardrobe.
