Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane has begun and we caught up with designer, Isabelle Quinn, from her self titled label who takes us through her day - from a bright morning start at 5:30am all the way through to lights out at 9pm.

But first, we have a few questions around her new collection that will be strutting down the runway at the Fashion Festival.

Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the new collection?

IQ: The inspiration began with a fabric sourcing trip overseas when I came across this mesh that was embellished with sequins and glass beading stars. It reminded me of constellations and galaxies and from there I became obsessed with stars. I then developed it into a story of Anais - who is this ethereal celestial being, which became the muse behind the Resort 2018 collection.

I also did my very first print that consisted of stars and played with contrasting leather star pieces on top of other coloured leather, because I wanted pieces that clashed in a harmonious way. The collection turned out to be super fun, wearable and whimsical.

Why are you excited to be showcasing your designs at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane?

IQ: Runway shows are the most exciting part of my job, the buzz, the chaos backstage, I love it all! It's an amazing feeling to present a collection on bodies. You get a vibe of the collection in real life and can see how the pieces can be worn together. To be able to showcase at home [in Brisbane], support my local peers and share these moments with friends and family too, that's a pretty awesome!

What's your most favourite thing about being a fashion designer?

IQ: It’s all about the processes for me - sketching, fabric sourcing, construction, runway shows, working with a team to create beautiful campaigns to wholesale and selling online. It gives me a creative outlet to express myself and is what makes my soul burn and gives me a drive.
