We caught up with Brisbane-based designer, Carly Brown from UNE PIECE, who takes us through her day - from early morning wake ups from her little man through to juggling her empire before lights out at 9pm.

But first, we have a few questions around her new collection that has launched for Summer 2017.

Since establishing UNE PIECE in 2016, you’ve already accomplished so much and have received a great amount of press coverage and support. If you had to list only one thing, what is your secret to success?

We have been thrilled with the response that UNE PIECE has received! I think the positive reaction can largely be put this down to 2 things.

Firstly - the product is very, very special. When women slip on an UNE PIECE it makes them feel confident and empowered. They feel beautiful when they wear it. Only someone that owns an UNE PIECE understands quite how transformative it is when all you’ve owned before was a daggy rashie!

Secondly - I think the brand really resonates with women. We are a brand that celebrates women and their passions. We have a beautiful, clean and chic aesthetic but we are inclusive and I am actively supporting diversity of beauty at every touchpoint. We created a campaign and hashtag #unepiecewomen, which brings this to life (I’m still amazed every time someone tags us on social media from somewhere fabulous in the world - it really makes my day).

How would you describe your latest collection?

The collection is named after Cap d’Ail on the French Riviera, and inspires visions of long languid days by the water with friends, enjoying fresh seafood and crisp white wine. The pieces are created with long lines, careful contouring and elegant twists to cinch in all the right places - designed to take you effortlessly from day to night by teaming them with your favourite palazzo pants, kaftan or flowing skirt.

You're a business woman, wife and mother. How do you keep it together and manage stress when it feels like there just aren’t enough hours in the day?

I surround myself with an incredible team of people! I draw a great deal of support and guidance from the women in my life - especially those who are also facing the ‘mamaprenuer’ challenges. However, it is true what they say - do something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.

What big plans do you have for UNE PIECE in the near future?

There are so many exciting things coming! New styles, new campaigns and focusing on spreading the word about UNE PIECE. We have had sales in 39 countries, so there is definitely global traction happening. I am particularly excited about the launch of our new blog, Life is Beautiful by UNE PIECE.

Timeline: A Day In The Life Of Carly Brown

5am - 6:30am: My little man wakes up at some point in this window, so it’s straight into breastfeeding and reading books.

6:30 - 7:30am: ‘Feeding time at the zoo’: Wolfing down my own breakfast and feeding my rapidly growing little boy breaky.

7:30am: My ‘morning routine’ (Meditating, journaling and writing my to do list for the day on the veranda with a cup of tea). I’m a big believer in a morning routine as it helps frame up your day well.

8am - 10am: Team meeting with my amazing UNE PIECE team. A quick check of emails and organising our workflow for the day.

10am -12pm: Books and crafts at my local library with the Little Man.

12pm - 1pm: Meeting about NPD (new styles, fabrics and trims).

1pm - 1:30pm: Lunch with the UNE PIECE team.

4:30pm - 5:00pm: Meeting with our manufactures about production schedules.

5:00pm - 5:30pm: A Skype call to catch up with the UNE PIECE UK team.

5:30pm - 6:30pm: Bath time, books and bed for my little man.

6:30pm - 8:00pm: A glass of wine while cooking dinner and eating with my husband.

8pm - 9pm: Reading (I’m currently reading Brene Brown’s ‘Daring Greatly’) and a quick email catch up.
