Winter Hair Trends

Winter Trends
This winter season it’s about colour and amazing cuts. There is a huge return to superb technical cutting, with modernised bobs, strong lines and fringes, with a juxtaposition of texture bringing the bobs to life and working with new colours and colouring techniques to create shimmering hair.

Colouring your hair for winter can be a huge change from the summer look you have created, and generally people tend to go darker for winter, but some subtle changes in your hair colour can perfectly complement changes in skin tone during the colder months. Colour is huge this winter because of the neutral palette in fashion for the season. We see lots of black, grey and muted tones with the occasional splash of colour. So you can brighten up an outfit with some superb colour in your hair. Talk to your colourist about working in some panels of colour and get creative with colour placement.
Caroline Ross, senior colourist at Tognini’s Hair Skin Body in Brisbane, believes in pushing the boundaries with colour placement and application. In her position at Tognini’s, Caroline uses panels of colour around the hair line and the crown in conjunction with foils and splices to achieve some absolutely astounding colour results. Caroline works in conjunction with the senior stylists at Tognini’s to bring out the best aspects of their work and loves nothing more than colouring a strong haircut and defining an aspect of it to bring it alive. With Tognini’s being one of the best salon’s in the country and an icon in the hairdressing industry, Caroline is at the forefront of hair fashion and creating new trends every day.

Blondes:
For the blondes of summer, winter is the time to go very light or introduce some lowlights into your hair. Creamy vanilla blondes work perfectly with the muted tones of winter fashion, as do latte, caramel and mocha lowlights. These mouth-watering colours, scattered through a beautiful blonde, will tone down the brightness of summer and give the hair serious shine and depth. Some beautiful colours for blondes coming in are also beiges with creamy pink tones throughout. If you are intent on staying as blonde as possible look to your stylist to give you very clean Artic blondes with tones of ash and platinum. Beware as, while this type of blonde works beautifully with a pale complexion, if you’re tanned you could wind up looking like Barbie.

Brunettes:
For Brunettes this winter, we’re looking at very deep luxurious brunettes with reflections of red, and rich mocha browns with toffee and caramel sweeping through in flashes of colour. There are also very dark natural browns that are so deep they almost look black. Remember to get regular moisture and shine treatments to keep these glorious colours from fading and losing shine. Rich violet browns also work well with the winter fashion palette and the depth and intensity of these colours can vary from a subtle reflect to a rich deep purple. The possibilities are endless so you can mix and match to find the perfect shade for you.

Redheads:
Copper is the hottest colour this year! Ranging from soft muted pink coppers to full blown red coppers, nothing screams pure sensuality like shimmering flame coloured hair. These colours can work for everyone but you must pick the right shade. Pale complexions with light coloured eyes can wear any shade of copper. It gives life to their skin and highlights the amazing blues and greens of their eyes. Darker skin tones can wear darker, more muted shades of copper, as anything too bright can make them look fake. If darker skin tones want to wear the brighter end of the scale, try a dark base colour and show some really bright highlights, which will enhance the haircut and give a vibrant flash of colour.

Red is also an amazing colour for the season. If you don’t want to be a full blown redhead, there are some beautiful browns with red reflections that can give you a subtle shade of red. For others there are beautiful cool reds and also some brighter warm reds that can look fantastic scattered in highlights through a haircut. For some really vibrant red, copper or red-violet highlights, Matrix redlights will rock your world! This range lifts and deposits vibrant intense red based colours to give you colour that lasts. You can find this range at Tognini’s Hair Skin Body in Brisbane, where Benni Tognini is a Matrix Global Ambassador for Australia so you know you’re getting the latest trends before they even hit our shores!

After you have found the perfect colour, you have to maintain it. While your stylists work wonders for you in the salon, what you do at home will ensure your colour stays fresh and you hair stays glossy and healthy. Getting the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair will ensure that it stays just as gorgeous as when you walked out of the salon. There are many brands to choose from, so talk to your stylist about which will work best for you. Your hair is part of you and an investment, so treat it and yourself well and you will have beautiful, shiny, glossy hair.
