We’ve got the lowdown on your cosmetic must-haves.
Look, there are a LOT of products out there on the market so it can be confusing to dig through all the buzz to find out which ones you should try and which aren’t worth the cashola. I’ve done the hard work for you, and selected the best of the cult products to spend your hard earned on.
1. Aspect Pigment Punch
Zoe Foster-Blake is a huge fan of this serum and after reviewing it, it’s easy to see why. This magic serum kicks pigmentation, sun spots, age spots, and even scarring to the curb, while also calming redness. And since my skin goes bright red at the slightest tweeze, pluck or, yes, pick, it’s a godsend.
2. Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick
This gorgeous “light in a compact” product has long been a favourite of beauty bloggers. The benefit of the stripy, shimmery colours means you can essentially customise your perfect glow colour for whatever your skin tone (healthy if you like to get your tan on). Just make sure you use a light hand, because the pigment here is super strong.
3. Kat Von D Tattoo Liner
If your makeup philosophy is “just wing it”, you’re gonna want Kat Von D’s Tattoo liner in your mix. A slender tip for precise application, this liner has staying power for the perfect cat’s eyes.
4. Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop
A collaboration between Becca and beauty guru Jaclyn Hill, eager beauty lovers have been clamouring for this sun-kissed, dewy perfection. Don’t be put off by how golden it looks in the compact, it’s a delightfully neutral glow.
5. Beauty Blender
Yes I KNOW all the (misguided) attention is on silicone blenders at the moment, but I keep going back to my Beauty Blender. It’s the only foundation applicator I’ve ever used that has the perfect distribution of product and buffs out any boo-boos.
6. Jurlique Hydrating Rosewater Mist
It’s a best-seller and for good reason. Other than the fact that it smells utterly delightful, one quick spray of the wonder mist is enough to hydrate your dry skin and quickly refresh your makeup through the day. Jurlique have also released it in a new lavender scent which is ideal for spritzing calm over your skin in stressful situations.
7. Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant
I’ve been hooked with this since the moment this exfoliating powder first hit my face. It’s a nifty little powder that reveals its super powers on contact with water. Make a paste, and work it into your face and presto: dead skin cells are no more thanks to salicylic acid and rice enzymes. Even better? They’ve released a version of it called Superfoliant with the added power of charcoal to really suck out all your skin impurities. It’s my new obsession.
8. Mecca Lit From Within Primer
Glow like an angel sent from heaven itself with this glorious primer. A spot of this below your foundation gives a hint of radiance that will have people asking you what you’ve done differently. But it’s your little secret!
9. Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer
It’s called creamy for a reason. Whenever someone asks me for a concealer recommendation, I point them towards Nars for its amazing ability to... well, conceal. But better than any other concealer I’ve used. It’s not cloggy, powder doesn’t stick to it and it’s easy to blend seamlessly.
10. Tarteist Pro Glow Highlighter and Contour Palette
I know I’ve already included a highligter, but who can go past a palette that can also contour? These colours mimic natural light and shade and because they’re balanced with Amazonian clay, they’re good for your skin too.
11. IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye
Being on constant deadline pretty much means my eyes always look positively purple rimmed. Enter Bye Bye Undereye. A few dabs of this around my (admittedly designer) bags and even I couldn’t tell I was exhausted anymore.
12. Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillowtalk
A creamy tube of perfection. This is a nude lipstick for those who usually can’t pull off a nude lip. It’s a neutral pink that mimics the natural colour of lips for a shade that stands strong while still looking natural. Couple that with light reflecting pigments and lip soothing extract, and you have perfection.
13. Cosmedix Pure C
Vitamin C is a hot topic among bloggers for its ability to firm skin, reduce wrinkles and brighten skin. These little crystals can be mixed in with your regular moisturiser to turn it into a kick-ass skin-fixing serum. I noticed a change after just a week of using. Magic.
14. Go-To Skincare (entire range)
Zoe Foster-Blake’s skincare range is so fab, it’s almost impossible to pick a favourite product. So I didn’t! Pretty sure the whole range is just filled with unicorn tears, and fairy dust because it works like magic. When I tested them, I used the products as a whole regimen and my skin looked brighter and felt smoother. I love that it’s no nonsense and does exactly what it says it does, with no confusing sciencey terms. If I had to pick a favourite, it would be the Face Hero oil.
15. Bioderma Sensibio
Micellar water had a moment in 2016, and is still IMHO a vital pre-cleansing step. The Bioderma Sensibio offering is gentle on the skin and removes all traces of makeup to prep the skin for a deep cleanse.
16. Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Pure Glow Mask
Can I get a hell yeah for charcoal power? It sucks impurities and toxins from your skin like nobody’s business. This mud-textured mask is a wonder for detoxifying skin, unclogging pores, and tingling while it does it.
17. Jo Malone London Cologne in Lime Basil and Mandarin
The price tag might be high, but darling, you have to spend to get the best. Jo’s unique scents can transport you to another place, and can be layered to customise your own individual scent. Their signature lime, basil and mandarin fragrance is inimitable and unique. Every time I wear it I feel like I’m on my own private tropical holiday.
18. La Mer Creme De La Mer
Celebrities swear by La Mer and its “Miracle Broth” blend of fermented seaweed, vitamins and minerals that's been treated with sound waves for its reparative and restorative properties. This thick, rich creme leaves skin with a dewy complexion, and improves skin elasticity. After weeks of using, I even noticed a lightening in my scar tissue. Not surprising seeing as the La Mer creator came up with the Miracle Broth to help treat his own facial scarring after being burned in an accident.
19. Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex
It’s not called Australia’s #1 repair serum for nothing! It works its wizardry overnight while you’re tucked up in bed and is pretty much a beauty sleep for your face. Skin looks younger, more vibrant and refreshed after using this little gem.
20. IT Cosmetics No. 50 Serum Anti Aging Collagen Veil Primer
Can someone say multitasker?! This serum hydrates your skin, winds back the clock, makes pores appear smaller AND primes your face for makeup. It’s one of the hardest working serums on the market!
