Lip balm is a girl’s best friend.

It’s no secret that we love winter (hello, winter fashion!). However, coat-worthy weather brings with it bitter winds and dry air, which can seriously affect our faces and bodies. Your beauty routine should not be unchanging all year round. So here are some adjustments to make to your winter beauty regime to keep yourself in prime condition!

Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise

Yes, you should be moisturising in all seasons. But in winter it is even more important so your complexion doesn’t dry out. You may want to invest in a heavier day cream for the colder, drier months if your summer one doesn’t do the trick. Also, grab a good moisturiser for your body so your skin stays smooth and free of that deeply unsexy dry, scaly look!

Tip: don’t use your body moisturiser on your face, as it can be too heavy for the more delicate skin and even block pores.

Protect your pout

Nobody enjoys a chapped lip. You may be more prone to them in winter, so gently exfoliate your lips with a lip scrub or a warm, wet washcloth about once a week. In addition to this, do an extra exfoliation right before applying a matte liquid lipstick for a super-smooth finish. Plus, you should never leave the house without lip balm.

Get shady

Unless you’re a dedicated spray tan queen, it’s likely your skin pales by a shade or two in the cooler months (even those ladies blessed with naturally darker skin may notice this!). Because of this, you might need to pop down to a beauty counter to have a lighter winter shade matched, or get a specialised foundation-lightening product to save yourself from buying a whole new bottle.

Curate your claws

Our hands can sure take a beating in winter! Not only are they exposed to the dry air more than almost any other body part, but washing them all the time can add to them drying out. Keep the skin supple with an intensely nourishing hand cream, and treat yourself to a manicure now and then to keep your cuticles cute (and pop a moody, wintry polish on them while you’re there). If they’re feeling pretty dry and sore, massage plenty of hand cream in right before bed and sleep with soft cotton gloves on so they soak all that goodness right up!

Indulge in a little self-love this winter and keep yourself looking fresh and fabulous.
